No Love Lost by Jesse Lizotte
15/05/2016

Jesse Lizotte and HEAVYTIME publications have come together to present a new zine, "No Love Lost". Following on from his last two shows "Lowrider" at China Heights Gallery and "Born Too Late" at the RVCA Melbourne Gallery, his latest photographic project explores a different subject matter. Shooting his friends, Lydia Collins and Cat McNeil, with the latter opening runway shows for the likes of Givenchy and have signed with Mario Testino, Jesse captures their time together through a collection of raw and candid images.
SUPPLY store launched limited quantities of "No Love Lost" zine in-store on the 16th March.
Hey Jesse, you recently released a zine with HEAVYTIME publications, "No Love Lost", could you please tell us a bit about it?
Sure. With this series of photos I just wanted to document the relationship between two of my friends, Cat and Lydia. Both girls are models but they allowed me to photograph them together as lovers, with no makeup and leave the images untouched. At the time when I shot the photos I didn't have any ambitions to make a zine, but later I looked back on them and saw there was a story there. I feel like a zine was the perfect platform.

Your last two exhibitions, "Lowrider" and "Born Too Late", documented some heavy subjects involved in specific cultures. There seems to be a contrast with subject between those works and the zine, is there a certain theme you aim to have throughout all works or do you try to explore new areas?
I definitely try to push myself and
explore something new with my photos. I wanted to capture intimacy
and vulnerability as opposed to my past endeavors, which revolved
around masculinity and a lot of bravado.
But I still feel it's a continuation of my previous work and my
photographic style. I'm a curious person and I'm always going to
gravitate towards subjects that I want to know more about or
understand better. My work is predominately about people and
capturing them in a raw and honest light, whether its two girls in
love or a cholo from east LA who fetishises over his lowrider
haha.

Was it a conscious choice to choose Lydia and Cat, or did it kind of just fall into place?
It wasn't really pre meditated or anything. Lydia is a close friend and I've photographed her a lot, so we are comfortable with each other. The photos came about one evening when we were all hanging out with some red wine and a spliff haha

Are you currently working on any new projects?
Nothing concrete right now. A trip to Jamaica is still on my list!
